“Dorrinson acknowledged that the gold standard for using troops for no reason might have been set by Perry’s predecessor in Texas, George W. Bush, but added, “If anyone can beat that record, it’s Rick.””
“Nothing in the attitudes of those whom these children meet in any capacity should whisper of anything but kindness.”

At one point, several buses approached the protesters, driving east. The crowd started to confront the buses but the protesters were told the buses were carrying kids from the YMCA.

"How do we know it’s the YMCA?" a few protesters shouted, but the buses were allowed to continue east on the highway.

"This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.” - writer, Jason Aaron

“Governments concerned about health, and good parents investing in their kids, have made Central American kids better-vaccinated than Texan kids. We fear them not because they are actually sick, but because of powerful anti-immigration narratives that link foreigners to disease.”
“In the end, something will probably be worked out. It’ll be ugly and inelegant; it’ll be fiscally irresponsible; and it’ll invite another dumb debate a year from now, but it probably won’t cause 700,000 layoffs in early August.”

"What is clear to me from the evidence, as described in more detail below, is that this group of Republican political consultants or operatives did in fact conspire to manipulate and influence the redistricting process. They accomplished this by writing scripts for and organizing groups of people to attend the public hearings to advocate for adoption of certain components or characteristics in the maps, and by submitting maps and partial maps through the public process, all with the intention of obtaining enacted maps for the state house and senate and for congress that would favor the Republican Party.

They made a mockery of the Legislature’s proclaimed transparent and open process of redistricting by doing all of this in the shadow of that process, utilizing the access it gave them to the decision makers, but going to great lengths to conceal from the public their plan and their participation in it. They were successful in their efforts to influence the redistricting process and the congressional plan under review here. And they might have successfully concealed their scheme and their actions from the public had it not been for the Plaintiffs’ determined efforts to uncover it in this case.” - Circuit Judge Terry P. Lewis (pdf)

“What exactly would armed troops do in this situation to help, threaten to shoot kids and moms?”
